WWII Veteran Winnipeg Jets Fan

K9 Storm would like to honor local Winnipeg icon, Len Kropioski, affectionately know by many as "Kroppy", a WWII Veteran and avid Winnipeg Jets Fan. He passed away on September 13, 2016 at the age of 98.

Kroppy was a season ticket holder for the Jets and loved the game of hockey. He drove nearly 2.5 hours from his home in nearby Kenora, Ontario, to see the Jets play every home game. His passion invigorated the arena.

Five years ago, he was shown at the end of the Canadian Anthem singing proudly, with a held salute, to the country he fought for and cherished. With just as much pride, he belted out the American anthem too, the salute still held to honor his brother’s in arms.

The image was everlasting and it quickly became a tradition for Kroppy to be shown at the end of the anthem at all Jet’s game. His passion struck a chord with the fan base and resonated deeply with those that were able to witness it.

No amount of pregame cinematography or special effects could overpower the real emotion coming from that man.  Our hearts go out to his family and loved ones for their loss.

On October 13, 2016 as the Winnipeg Jets take the ice for their season opener, let us honor Kroppy with one final salute during the anthem. A fitting send off for a war hero and local legend.
